An experience with Marisa Convento, Venetian impiraressa
An experience with me, a Venetian Impiraressa
My name is Marisa Convento and I am an impiraress
An ancient craft, made of beads, needles, fine threads, and skills passed down through generations.
In this experience, I welcome you into my world to tell you the story of Venetian glass beads, bead makers, and a feminine know-how that has spanned Venice and the world for centuries.
This is not a lesson.
This is not a demonstration.
This is time shared, with hands and with memory.
What we will do together
For two hours, we'll work slowly, without rushing:
I'll tell you the history of Venetian beads and the women who have strung them for centuries.
We'll discuss glass beads called conteria, their meaning, and their journey around the world.
You'll observe the traditional tools of the impiraressa.
You'll try your hand at creating a small object or piece of jewelry with Venetian glass beads.
You'll take the object you create home with you.
Not as a souvenir, but as a reminder of a learned skill.
